Between 2015 and 2020 alone, LinkedIn reported a 107% increase in “head of diversity” roles. Although this progress is to be commended, many companies are missing the point. Of course, the most important outcome of diversity is providing opportunities for individuals and groups who have traditionally been held back. But it’s so much more than that.

Companies need to stop looking at diversity as something they should do and instead embrace it as the genuine opportunity it is—an opportunity to innovate.
