Looking around the corner: Augmented reality is a sports reality

It seems like everyone’s talking about sports betting.

In June 2018, Delaware became the first state outside of Nevada to legalize sports betting. More than two dozen states have followed suit, with gamblers in New Jersey wagering over $6 billion in 2020 alone. Of course, this has not gone unnoticed by major sports leagues: The Chicago Cubs, Arizona Cardinals, and Washington Nationals have all recently announced plans to have sportsbooks inside their stadiums.

All this to say, sports betting is one of the biggest opportunities for major league sports since the industry started streaming games online in the early aughts. But I believe there’s a bigger opportunity lurking around the corner — one that has been massively accelerated thanks to COVID-19, and one that will help teams across all leagues create the ultimate fan experience.
